Reading Panda

My panda bear Mulan has really been into Hana-Kimi recently! She has been living on the shelf they are on, and one day when she was bored she picked one up and got hooked! She is currently on the 19th volume. I got some quick pictures of her this morning to post because she looks so cute. Click them for larger versions.

Up In The Clouds

These photographs are from the mountain we went to yesterday.

It was so high up we actually walked through clouds!

Somebody left this pretty earring on a tree branch in the forest.
Or maybe trees like to wear jewelry too?

An up close shot of a Rhododendron flower.

More flowers...

This mountain has a large natural Rhododendron garden. It's so pretty!

A path to wonderland? Or fairyland maybe.

The beautiful view from high up on the mountain.

It was really cold and windy up there.

Blog: Chic, Cheap, And Cruelty Free!

"I am just a girl who is passionate about all things feminine and pamper related and not having to perform absurd acts on a helpless animal to get them." (Read More)

Chic, Cheap, and Cruelty Free is an awesome blog for anyone who loves fashion, is not super rich, and doesn't want to hurt innocent animals by buying products that have been tested on them or are made out of them. Go see!

Speaking of cruelty free fashion... I just found out that e.l.f cosmetics is cruelty free and anti fur! Yay! See? It isn't so hard to buy beauty products and be nice to animals at the same time! Almay, M.A.C, Revlon, Bath and Body Works, and many other companies are also good. So do your best to buy products that make you feel good outside and inside!

A Rainbow Of Clothes!

Yesterday me, my sister, and one of her friends went thrift store shopping.
It is fun because you can usually find some interesting things, and it's usually pretty cheap!

We visited a consignment store I had been wanting to see for a while. It was so cool!
All the racks were organized so that they made rainbows. They had lots of adorable clothes too.

My sister and her friend had fun trying on some really weird stuff too,
like this hideous multi colored polka dot skirt and jacket! I think it looked like a clown suit.

I didn't find all that much, but it was fun looking around.

Petition: Stop The Hunting Of Wolves

Photograph by Tambako the Jaguar

Urge Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin to end the
sate's unfounded aerial wolf-killing program.

Since 2003, Alaska's aerial hunting program has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 wolves. During these hunts, wolves are shot from the air or chased by airplanes to the point of exhaustion before the pilot lands the plane and a gunner shoots the animals point blank. Sign the petition and urge Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to end the state's irresponsible and cruel aerial wolf-killing program immediately. (From The Animal Rescue Site)

Chanel Swan

Photo found here.

Karl Lagerfeld has designed an exclusive costume for 'The Dying Swan' as part of the English National Ballet's season of Ballets Russes at Sadler's Wells in London in June 2009.

Elena Glurjidze, Senior Principal of the English National Ballet, who will wear the creation for her performance of 'The Dying Swan' says "we always say that the look is 50% of how you are going to dance, so it is very important to have a beautiful costume".

Chanel has a long association with the ballet: Coco Chanel herself designed costumes for both 'La Train Bleu' in 1924 and 'Apollon Musagete' in 1929. Indeed it was Chanel herself, who in Lagerfeld's words, "helped Diaghilev to stage his ballet again after World War I in 1919".

The tutu was made in Lemarie Ateiler from a variety of different feathers. The costume took 3 women over 100 hours to create. It will have it's debut on stage at Sadler's Wells in London on June 2009 before going to Barcelona for performances in September at the Gran Teatro Liceu.

A Birthday Card

This is a birthday card I made for a friend. It was drawn entirely with gel pens. I apologize for the poor quality... I believe we have a photo copier, but unfortunately I do not know how to use it! I had to photograph it instead. Click for image for larger version.

Save The Polar Bear

Arctic sea ice is melting away and polar bears are losing their homes, their hunting grounds, and their lives. Two-thirds of the world's polar bears will be gone by 2050. And the entire species could be extinct by the end of the century.

The bearded, ringed, and spotted seals all need sea ice to survive as well.

You can help save the Hawaiian Monk Seal from extinction.

Fewer than 1,200 monk seals remain, making them the most endangered species in U.S waters. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service "Marine Mammal Research program" is mandated to identify the causes of population decline and to enhance recovery of the monk seal species - but the program is not being properly funded and the seal population continues to plummet, fast. Take action! Sign the petition and tell a friend. (Or two... Or three... Or ten!)

"In response to a petition by the Center for Biological Diversity and allies, last Friday the National Marine Fisheries Service announced it will grant the Hawaiian monk seal the federally protected habitat it needs for any hope of shedding its status as one of the most endangered marine mammals in the world. Monk seals on the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands are dying by the dozens thanks to starvation, derelict fishing-gear entanglement, predation, and disease; pups in the area have only about a one-in-five chance of surviving to adulthood. Thankfully, the main islands offer better foraging conditions, as well as a better refuge for warming-caused sea-level rise and beach erosion. Accordingly, seals in the main Hawaiian Islands are giving birth to healthy pups and their numbers are slowly on the rise.

But despite the increasing importance of main-islands habitat for monk seals, it has never before been protected. Last week the Service declared it was not only going to expand habitat protections in the Northwestern Islands; it will also designate new protected habitat in the main islands.

Discoveries

There are so many pretty flowers appearing the the yard right now: beautiful sunny looking California Poppies, dainty white wildflowers, bright maroon flowers, and big yellow blossoms on the zucchini plants. I had been wanting to get some pictures for a while, but hadn't gotten the chance until today because of not feeling well and things.

Hummingbird

Isn't this Anna's Hummingbird sweet? I love hummingbirds! It's so cool how they zoom around. Where I used to live there were quite a lot of them, We even got a hummer nest in one of our trees once! I don't think many live here though, and I miss seeing them. Anyways, I recommend you visit the Webshots album this photograph is from. There are some beautiful pictures there!
